Don't be too disheartened by my Final comment, for three reasons. A friend of mine who started out pretty terrible has, after a year of performing and refining her act, become pretty competent. Still not great, but you don't spend the act willing h…

Awesome list, you should be a cracked.com writer! As a comedy performer, and comedy snob I guess, I agree! I've seen too many acts who've been told by their mates at the pub that they're funny get up on stage and inflict their stupid observations o…

I reckon the interface needs tidying up a bit: n00bs might find all the options a bit offputting (mayhap merge photo's, video's and audio stuff into it's own category) "Gigs and Events" should be like the 2nd most prominent option - It'd be great to…

So then, how do we make this work? What needs to be done? How do we get new members? How do we get what we want? Bear in mind, that all this is yours, this site isn't mine, it's the community's. Any ideas at all, because we're obviously missing som…

A gig in the quaint town of Halifax, I may have scared the life out of the poor lambs there. I may also have one new fan.

Brand New Start...

Hello, welcome along to this ma-jobbin: an attempt to create a network for people practising, performing, writing, and promoting new comedy and generally aren't getting paid to do it, or at least not much!

I started this network after spending many happy years performing improv comedy, and met up with a stand-up friend to watch a show of hers and thought, wow, there's got to be an easier way of finding out what your comedy friends are upto, sharing gig info, reviews, getting to know promoters, and what-not.

It'd be awesome if you can meet a writing partner through here, or find a perfect straight man to take pies in the face, or maybe (just maybe) find a venue owner looking to put on a show containing your special brand of humour.

Anywhat, if you're a comedian, or a comedy afficiando, then post a blog, or upload some photos of your last gig, tell people about your upcoming shows, or howabout finding out that there's something happening near you soon, and going to see it, because you like to laugh.

It's all gravy baby!

Good article on Musical Comedy

I saw Stewart Lee perform the other week. Lee is loved by his audience, and is a standup comedian at the top of his game – but even he felt bound to apologise at the end of the show, when he announced he was going to sing a song. "No one thinks it's a good sign," said Lee, "when a comedian picks up a guitar."

The 5 mistakes I’ve noticed new comedians make quite a bit.

1. Too honest too early.

British comedy has taken a (rather delightful) turn towards self-confessional rants and revealing personal embarrassing information. Whilst this can endear the audience to you, it should be left until after you’ve made some dec… Continue

So, this seems to be moving a bit slow. :( Harumph.

I'm going to urge you to build your community, if, (a big if) you thing this place is a worthwhile idea, and if you know people who might like it, tell them about it. And add content. Then tell them about that. Post it on message boards, twitter about it, facebook about it, blog elsewhere about it! Thank you very much to everybody who's added content so far, it's pretty wicked!

Or let me know what would make this work, in fact i'm going to st… Continue
